A gardener is a person who engages in gardening: growing and cultivating plants. The term includes both those who engage in gardening professionally and those who engage in gardening as a hobby for leisure time. The term gardener is also sometimes used to describe landscape and garden designers, who generally deal with planning garden design, rather than aspects of its day-to-day care.

In everyday Hebrew, there is sometimes a gender distinction between "gardener" (a man who teaches gardening) and "teacher" (a woman who teaches children in kindergarten). The distinction relies on social conventions and gender division of roles, according to which men traditionally engage in physical labor, and women in child care. Today there are men involved in educating children in kindergartens and women engaged in gardening, but it is still a small minority. In both cases, the Hebrew language refers to them as "gardeners" and "gardeners".
